The way our home looks says a lot about who we are and even more about our personalities, that’s why the way in which we arrange our home interiors are very important in how we live our lives. We live in a fast moving world where we are bombarded with what we should wear, eat and put in our homes but rarely do we have the time to give thought to the facts that maybe how we arrange our rooms just might have an effect on or moods, creativity, energy levels and who knows what else. Maybe it’s time to take a serious look at ourselves and our home interiors.

From planning parks to designing stone pathways, a landscape architect’s activities are varied. When you begin planning the scope of your project, find an architect whose track record and experience matches up with the level of design you are seeking. You will waste money and create worry if you choose someone whose plans are too grandiose for your particular needs.

After deciding on the overall scope of your project, go architect shopping. The best way to do this is to ask for recommendations, whether they be from friends or neighbors, or even a stranger whose yard you admire. Always make sure to ask why they would recommend this person. If you are looking for someone whose expertise lies in designing swimming pools, then a planting expert may not be right for you.

After getting several recommendations, narrow down the list by getting bids and checking out references. Above all, make sure that no matter the person’s area of expertise, he or she has experience in and knowledge of local regulations, construction oversight, and site engineering and building techniques. As with any contract work, make sure that the architect has professional liability insurance for the service you require.

Once the playing field is cut to two or three potential designers, interview them on the phone and ask to see examples of their work. If a designer comes to your home to give you a bid, he or she should also bring a portfolio of their past work. Going through the portfolio ensures that you like the architect’s style and solidifies their work history. A word of advice: Only invite the most promising designers to your property to give you an estimate. This will save time and allow you to make a quicker decision.

They accomplish this by skillfully adding a textures and patterns to the normally featureless surface of the concrete. Creating these effects requires proper use of the concrete form liners that serve as a secondary mold inside the primary structural forming systems and impose the chosen patterns onto the curing concrete. The results can be stunning and add a whole new dimension to architectural and engineering design.

What this means is that formliners are assuming a more important role in the overall design and construction process. Architects, engineers and builders must know formliner properties and what types of form liner to use for a given project. They must know where to look for specific formliners patterns, how to specify the proper liners for different substructures, and how to build formliners into the overall scheduling and procurement process. This may sound easy, but it is a skill that needs to be learned and practiced as part of professional training.

While formliners provide an artistic means of expression, the use of them requires detailed and specific knowledge. An architect may have to decide between using single-use polystyrene formliners that are discarded and multi-use ABS formliners that can be used up to ten times or more. He or she may have to decide whether to use a plastic formliner, an urethane formliner, or a premium elastomeric type that combines resilience and high tensile strength. Picking one or the other means trade-offs between durability, quality and cost, and can thus have a significant impact on budgets.

Learning how to best use formliners requires not only training and experience, but also teamwork and cooperation with the chosen formliner maker. Selecting one may be via bidding process or simply working with a company that offers a suitably large product selection and the desired level of service. A good formliner company will be able to generate custom tooled patterns when a specified design is not commercially available. They will also have trained staff capable of interpreting complex contract plans and producing detailed shop drawings. Being able to adhere to production schedules and costs is mandatory for a formliner company, as is making sure that all their products meet Department of Transportation specs. Formliner makers are also called upon to provide expert advice on proper trimming, attachment to formwork, optimal placement of ties, and the use of rustications at joints to for a continuous, cohesive look.

If you’re in the construction industry and seek to make use of concrete form liners, keep the above in mind when selecting a company to work with. Whether it’s brick, block, rock, wood grain, flutes or fins, it’s all available in numerous looks and designs, and new patterns are being added all the time. Concrete used to have a reputation as a stark, drab construction material.

For some people, it was all about some building that inspired them as a child. Perhaps they grew up in some gorgeous mansion. Perhaps they went to one of the great museums of the world as a kid and were completely captivated by it. Whatever it was, a single building got them interested in the process of designing and building others.

For other people, architecture schools are part of a political mission. You wouldn’t believe how many visionaries there are at an average architectural school. At the one I go to, they probably make up half the class. Some of them want to design buildings with the idea of providing beautiful and affordable housing to the poor, others to change the way we see space as a society

Landscape architecture is the design of outdoor space using the compositional elements of vegetation, landform, water and structures such as walls, seating, lighting, steps etc. The U.S.A. is a large country with varied geographical resources presenting opportunities to landscape architects to improvise with and accommodate these resources. Even though there is minimal threat to natural habitats the growing urbanization and moving population is encouraging construction and designing of neighborhood parks or playgrounds. These are relatively small but of intensive use for education, health and recreation purposes.

The landscape architect is not a lonely figure. They have the backing of professional associations and a wide spectrum of projects ranging from roads, reservoirs, river reclamation, forests, housing development projects, industrial estates, rapid urbanization and other projects. If one is thinking of becoming a landscape architect, one needs to have a creative flair and appreciation for nature in all its forms. Along with this is needed an analytical mind to design, manage, preserve and rehabilitate cities into functional and aesthetically pleasing entities. Whether working for a firm or being self-employed, the increasing demand for designed outdoor spaces is turning landscape architecture into a challenging profession.

Our home is our haven and we want nothing to go wrong when we construct our abode. We would like to ensure that every brick which goes into building the home should be in proper place and nothing destroys the look and feel of our house. In our quest for the very best we leave no stones unturned and therefore it is no wonder that we often resort to the ancient Hindu principle of home vaastu for the architecture and construction purposes. Most of the houses that are constructed in India and other nations have been built on these principles of architecture. The principles have assigned specific directions for the construction of every room in a house or office and also have specific directions for placement of objects and materials.

Home vaastu defines particular directions that prove to be auspicious for the construction of particular rooms. One of the most important locations in any house is the kitchen where the source of nourishment for the entire family is prepared. The kitchen according to the architectural principles of home vaastu should be built in the south east direction as this direction has been assigned to the Hindu God of fire. If there is a constraint in creating the kitchen in this direction then alternatively the north western area could be considered for this purpose. Wealth and finances form another crucial aspect of our lives and in our homes it should be stored in the northern direction according to home vaastu principles. Jewelry and precious belongings should be kept facing the south as according to principles of home vaastu this helps in wealth enhancement.

Placement of the bedroom could change the nature of relationship among the residents of the house. A bedroom should ideally be situated in the southern part of the home according to home vaastu. The construction of the bedroom in the north could create unrest in the family life leading to disharmony among the family members. It is also mentioned in the vaastu principles that it is an ill omen to sleep with one’s feet towards the south and consuming meals in the bedroom should be strictly avoided. Contrary to popular belief, idols should not be placed in the bedroom as well. Food should be consumed in the dining room only which should be constructed towards the western part of the home.

Home vaastu has similarly laid down principles for every aspect of home construction starting from planning the architecture till the time of actual construction of the home. Specific considerations have been made even for selection of the land, the measurements for the rooms, the entrance structure, and the overall layout of the house and so on so forth. If proper attention is paid to home vaastu while constructing every residential place, the people residing in it have a lot to gain from such a home. The positive vibes of a properly constructed house has a lot to offer in terms of peace and prosperity to every inmate of the house
